The central armed police forces are the biggest uniformed door open to you. And the numbers look good: half the constable posts are set aside for ex-Agniveers. But how does SSC GD after Agniveer really work? The honest answer has a twist, so read this guide slowly.

The 50 per cent rule behind SSC GD after Agniveer

On 21 July 2026, the Home Ministry told Parliament that central armed police forces and Assam Rifles reserve 50 per cent of Constable (GD) and Rifleman posts for ex-Agniveers (PIB release). The same reply lists these benefits:

  • Age relaxation of 3 years, and 5 years for the first batch.
  • Exemption from the physical standard test.
  • Exemption from the physical efficiency test.
  • Exemption from the written examination.

The reply also says the first batch had not yet finished its term at that date. So the real use of this rule is still ahead.

The twist: the SSC exam may not be your door

Here is what most websites miss. The SSC GD 2026 notice, which carries 25,487 posts, does not list an ex-Agniveer category. I read the full notice and found none. Some secondary sources say the 50 per cent share is filled in two phases. In phase one, each force recruits ex-Agniveers itself. In phase two, SSC fills the remaining posts through its normal exam. I could not confirm this in an official paper, so treat it as reported only.

What does this mean for you? The ex-Agniveer share may come through force-level recruitment, not through the SSC exam at all. You will need to watch the websites of each force, as well as SSC. Do not stop at one source.

What the SSC GD 2026 notice says

These facts come from the official notice for the general candidates:

ItemDetail
Total posts25,487
PayLevel 3, Rs. 21,700 to Rs. 69,100
Age18 to 23 years as on 1 January 2026
Written test80 questions, 2 marks each, 160 marks, 60 minutes
Negative marking0.25 mark per wrong answer
Physical (male)Height 170 cm; 5 km run in 24 minutes
Physical (female)Height 157 cm; 1.6 km run in 8.5 minutes
FeeRs. 100

The stages in the notice are a computer based examination, then the physical standard test and physical efficiency test, then a medical examination, then document verification. An older version of this article put the stages in a different order. The notice order above is the correct one. The paper has four parts of 20 questions each. The parts are reasoning, general knowledge, mathematics, and English or Hindi.

The exam is also held in 13 regional languages, plus English and Hindi. That is a big help if Hindi or English is not your first language. The notice also gives ex-servicemen a 10 per cent reservation, which is

a separate group from Agniveers.

A realistic plan for SSC GD after Agniveer

Imagine a young man finishing his term at 22. He sees the 50 per cent figure and feels sure of a job. Then he finds that no notice yet names ex-Agniveers in the SSC exam. What should he do? He should not panic, and he should not rely on a rumour. He should plan for three cases.

  • Case one: a force-level notice for ex-Agniveers appears. He applies with his discharge papers.
  • Case two: SSC adds an ex-Agniveer category. He applies through the exam, with the exemptions the notice gives.
  • Case three: neither appears for a while. He applies as a general candidate, if his age allows, and studies for the written test.

The general limit is 18 to 23 for the 2026 notice, and the relaxation adds years for you. Work out your own age on the cut-off date. A single month can decide whether you are eligible, so do the sum carefully.

The strength of SSC GD after Agniveer is the sheer number of posts. CISF alone has 14,595 in the 2026 notice. Even a small slice of that is big. The weakness is the uncertainty about how the quota reaches you. Good planning turns the weakness into a manageable risk, and that is the best way to approach SSC GD after Agniveer service.

Finally, join official channels only. Rumours about SSC GD after Agniveer spread fast, and fake notices exist. If a message asks for money to “book” your quota seat, it is a scam. Real recruitment notices never ask for that.

How to prepare for SSC GD after Agniveer

  1. Watch the Home Ministry, each force and SSC for any ex-Agniveer notice.
  2. Keep your discharge papers ready in print and as scans.
  3. Stay fit, even if the physical tests are waived for you.
  4. Practise arithmetic, reasoning, general knowledge and English or Hindi.
  5. Take mock tests, in case you must sit the written paper.

Do not stop training just because a waiver exists. A constable posting means long hours, and fitness protects you. A waived test is not a waived career.

The next SSC GD notice was reported as scheduled for around 30 September 2026. I could not confirm that it has been published. Check the SSC website for it, and read it for any ex-Agniveer line.
