The railway is one of the biggest employers in India. If you are thinking about RRB after Agniveer, you may ask a simple question. Is there a quota for me, or do I just compete like everyone else? Since February 2026 the answer has two parts, and this guide keeps them apart.
RRB after Agniveer: the new reservation
On 26 February 2026, Indian Railways and the Indian Army launched a Framework of Cooperation. The government release lists these reservations:
| Group | Level-1 posts | Level-2 and above posts |
| Ex-servicemen | 20% | 10% |
| Ex-Agniveers | 10% | 5% |
The release also says that Level-1 posts, once called Group D, are filled through Railway Recruitment Centres. Level-2 and above posts are filled through Railway Recruitment Boards by competitive exams. So RRB after Agniveer works in two ways, depending on the level of the post.
Ex-servicemen and ex-Agniveers appear as two different groups in the release. Choose the ex-Agniveer option on your form. Do not claim the ex-servicemen share unless a notice clearly allows it.
What RRB Group D asks for
The latest Group D round was CEN 09/2025. It announced 22,195 Level-1 posts. Level-1 pay starts at Rs. 18,000 basic. The age limit was 18 to 33 years as on 1 January 2026. Stages reported for the round were a computer based test, a physical efficiency test, document verification and a medical examination.
Qualification for most Group D posts is Class 10, ITI or an equivalent paper. The posts include Track Maintainer, Pointsman and Assistant roles in many departments. Many of these jobs are outdoor and physical. If you served in a technical or field trade, you may find them familiar.
Here is a point many sites miss. I could not find an official statement on how the 10 per cent Ex-Agniveer share will be applied in the next Group D notice. Look for it in the notice. If you do not see the word “Ex-Agniveer”, apply as a general candidate.
What RRB NTPC asks for
NTPC stands for Non-Technical Popular Categories. The latest round used two notices:
- CEN 06/2025 for graduate posts, with 5,810 vacancies and age 18 to 33.
- CEN 07/2025 for undergraduate posts, with 3,058 vacancies and age 18 to 30.
Pay depends on the post. Graduate posts included Level 6 (Rs. 35,400 basic) for Station Master, Level 5 (Rs. 29,200) for Goods Train Manager and clerk-typist roles, and Level 4 (Rs. 25,500) for Traffic Assistant. The stages are a first computer test, a second computer test, and then a typing skill test or an aptitude test for some posts. Document verification and a medical check follow.
The first test is a screening test of 100 questions in 90 minutes. It covers general awareness, mathematics and reasoning. The second test decides your merit. So plan your RRB after Agniveer study to cover both.
Study plan for RRB after Agniveer
- Pick your target: Group D if you hold Class 10 or ITI, NTPC if you hold Class 12 or a degree.
- Download the latest syllabus from the Railway Recruitment Board site.
- Study mathematics and reasoning for one hour a day.
- Read the daily news for general awareness.
- Take a full mock test every week and review each mistake.
If you are still in service, you can start this plan now. Four years is a long time to learn. Even 45 minutes a day adds up. Think of your service years as free study time that most civilian candidates do not have.
Common mistakes in RRB after Agniveer planning
Imagine two candidates. Arun skims a news story that says “Railways gives Agniveers a quota” and waits. Kiran reads the actual notice and finds the post, the age and the closing date. Kiran applies on time. Arun misses the round. The quota is real, but it only helps if you act on a live notice.
- Mixing up the RPF quota, the Level-1 quota and the central police quota.
- Ignoring the closing date for age and qualification.
- Skipping the medical standards until the last stage.
- Using only one study source and never taking mock tests.
- Forgetting that Level-1 posts and Level-2 posts have different shares.
Keep your papers in order as well. You will need your discharge certificate, service record, Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets, and any trade certificate. Scan each one and store it in one folder. Good paperwork makes RRB after Agniveer applications much smoother.
Where RRB after Agniveer fits with other options
Railways is one door among many. The Railway Protection Force has its own constable route, covered in our RPF Agniveer reservation guide. Central armed police forces offer 50 per cent of constable posts, as the Home Ministry told Parliament on 21 July 2026 (PIB release). Our SSC CGL and CHSL roadmap covers office jobs.
You can check live notices on the official RRB Chandigarh site and the central application portal. Always read the full notice, not a summary. The RRB after Agniveer plan only works if you meet the age, the qualification and the medical rules on the closing date.
