Picture this. You finish your four years at 22 or 23. You hold a Class 12 certificate and a discharge certificate. You live in Uttar Pradesh. Can you walk into police service? The UP Police Agniveer reservation is built for you. But how does it really work? Let us go through it step by step.

What the UP Police Agniveer reservation offers

On 3 June 2025 the UP Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved 20% reservation for former Agniveers in direct recruitment. You can read the All India Radio report on the decision. The posts are:

  • Constable, Civil Police
  • Constable, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC)
  • Mounted Police
  • Fireman

The state said the quota applies across General, SC, ST and OBC categories. If an Agniveer is from the SC category, the reservation works inside the SC group. The same goes for OBC. This is called horizontal reservation.

Age relief under the UP Police Agniveer reservation

The state also announced, with the UP Police Agniveer reservation, a special age relaxation of up to

3 years for Agniveers who apply for these posts. For comparison, the UP constable notice of December 2025 set age limits of 18 to 22 for men and 18 to 25 for women, counted on 1 July 2025, according to a job portal. The final notice for your round will give the exact numbers and the cut-off date. So read it closely.

Pay and growth

UP Police constables sit at Pay Level 3. The pay matrix runs from Rs. 21,700 to Rs. 69,100, as shown in press reports on the 2026 constable recruitment. Your monthly in-hand pay depends on allowances and your posting. We did not find an official in-hand figure, so we do not quote one. Constables can move up to Head Constable and Sub-Inspector through service years, exams and performance.

Why the UP Police Agniveer reservation matters

Uttar Pradesh has a very large population. That means many young people compete for every constable post. The UP Police Agniveer reservation gives ex-Agniveers a protected share of posts, so you compete with other ex-Agniveers for those seats instead of with the whole field. That is a real advantage. It does not remove the written test or the checks that come with police hiring.

Plan your preparation

Think of your next year in three blocks. First, your fitness. UP Police hiring has run, in recent UP notices, through a written exam, document checks, a physical standard test and a physical efficiency test. Second, your study. The 2026 written paper was reported as 150 multiple-choice questions for 300 marks with negative marking. Third, your paperwork. A missing certificate can cost you a seat

even if you do well in every test.

If you serve until the end of your term, start the first block early. Your service fitness is a head start, but running and strength standards still need regular practice. A simple weekly plan works well: run on three days, do strength work on two days, and study on all five. Review your mock test scores each Sunday.

How to use the quota: five steps

  1. Keep your Agniveer discharge certificate safe. It is your main proof.
  2. Keep your Class 12 marksheet, domicile proof and category certificate ready.
  3. Watch the UPPRPB website for each new constable notice.
  4. Read how the notice treats ex-Agniveers. Look for the quota, the age rule and the physical test rule.
  5. Apply online before the closing date and keep every receipt.

Do not assume the UP Police Agniveer reservation is applied in every round. The UP Police constable notice published on 31 December 2025 listed 32,679 posts across civil police, PAC, mounted police and other units. We could not confirm from the sources we checked whether that notice reserved posts for ex-Agniveers. Check the notice itself.

Where the UP Police Agniveer reservation stands against other states

StateQuotaStatus
Uttar Pradesh20%Cabinet approval, 3 June 2025
Delhi20% of constable (executive) postsMinistry of Home Affairs notification, reported March 2026
Haryana20% in state policeAnnounced by the Chief Minister; an earlier 2024 policy gave 10%
Uttarakhand10%Rules issued 1 September 2025
Odisha10%Cabinet decision, September 2024

A bigger number is not a guarantee. UP is a large state, so many candidates compete for each post. Preparation matters as much as the quota. See our state-wise police reservation table for the full picture.

Documents to keep ready

  • Discharge certificate and service record
  • Character certificate
  • Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets
  • Domicile certificate, if the notice asks for it
  • Category certificate, if you claim a caste category
  • Aadhaar card and recent photographs

Common mistakes

  • Thinking the UP Police Agniveer reservation is automatic. You still need to qualify.
  • Ignoring the cut-off date for age.
  • Skipping physical practice. The notice may or may not exempt ex-Agniveers from physical tests.
  • Using old news. Quota rules can change, so always read the latest notice.

The UP Police Agniveer reservation is a real opening for ex-Agniveers in UP. It works best when you treat it as one tool among many.
