Raipur, October 1, 2026: The Chhattisgarh Cabinet has approved recruitment rules to put the Chhattisgarh ex-Agniveer quota into practice, the existing 10 per cent reservation for former Agniveers in selected Class III posts in the state civil services. The decision was taken on 30 September 2026 at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at Mahanadi Bhawan in Raipur.

What the Chhattisgarh ex-Agniveer quota rules say

The Cabinet cleared the Chhattisgarh Public Service Former Agniveer Soldiers Recruitment Rules, 2026. According to the report, the rules set out the appointment and service conditions, the recruitment criteria, the reservation provisions and the selection process through which the quota will be applied.

Officials stressed that this approval does not create a new reservation. It puts in place the recruitment framework needed to enforce a policy decision the state government had already taken. In simple words, the Chhattisgarh ex-Agniveer quota was announced earlier, and these rules are the machinery that lets departments use it.

Which posts are covered

Former Agniveers will be eligible for reservation in direct recruitment to three kinds of posts:

  • Constable in the Police Department
  • Forest guard in the Forest and Climate Change Department
  • Jail prahari (jail warder) in the Prisons Department

These are physically demanding, uniformed posts where discipline and fitness count, and where the state government says it wants to draw on the training and service experience of Agniveers.

How the decision unfolded

The September approval completes the administrative step between the policy announcement and actual recruitment. With the rules cleared, the departments concerned can now frame and conduct selections in which the 10 per cent quota is applied to the identified posts.

Who is eligible

Under the earlier rules, eligibility is limited to Agniveers from Chhattisgarh who have completed four years of service in the armed forces and have been discharged with a valid service certificate. This means the quota is meant for those who finish their full engagement, and the service certificate becomes a key document. The state government has said the measure is intended to open structured employment avenues for these personnel while allowing the police, forest and prison departments to benefit from their discipline and experience.

Why rules matter for the Chhattisgarh ex-Agniveer quota

Many candidates think that a Cabinet announcement is enough to start applying. In practice, a reservation needs rules that explain who can apply, how the quota will be counted, what the selection process will be and how service conditions will work. Without rules, departments cannot issue advertisements that include the quota. The two-step process for the Chhattisgarh ex-Agniveer quota, first the reservation rules in July and then the recruitment rules in September, shows how long this can take.

The same pattern is visible elsewhere. Assam approved its 12 per cent quota on 4 October, and Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh took their Cabinet decisions on 29 September. All of them will need to follow up with detailed rules or government orders before the first recruitment drives can include Agniveers.

What the reports do not say

The coverage reviewed does not mention the amount of age relaxation, any exemption from written or physical tests, or the date by which the first recruitment advertisement may be published. It also does not describe whether the quota cuts across the existing caste categories. Candidates should treat these points as open until the official rules or the departments’ notifications are published.

The same Cabinet meeting also approved a revised guest lecturer policy for government colleges and ratified an order on the tax-free status of a film. These were separate decisions and have no connection with the Agniveer framework.

What the departments must do next

For the Police, Forest and Prisons departments, the next step is to apply the rules in their own recruitment plans. Each department has to decide how many vacancies in a given year will be counted against the quota, publish them in the advertisement and prepare the merit list accordingly. The reports do not say when the first such advertisement will appear, so candidates should expect a gap between the Cabinet approval and the actual vacancy notice, and use that time to prepare.

The Chhattisgarh ex-Agniveer quota is meant for Agniveers from Chhattisgarh. Its 10 per cent share is the same as in Maharashtra and Uttarakhand, and half of the 20 per cent approved by neighbouring Madhya Pradesh a day earlier. Each state has its own policy, so an Agniveer should read the rules of the state where he or she is a resident.

Advice for Agniveers from Chhattisgarh

Agniveers who are about to complete their engagement should plan to collect their discharge and service certificate as soon as it is issued, keep their educational and residence documents ready and follow the official websites of the Police, Forest and Prisons departments. Since the quota covers only direct recruitment, watch for advertisements for constable, forest guard and jail prahari posts and read the eligibility conditions carefully. It is also wise to stay physically fit and prepare for the written and physical stages, because the reports have not yet confirmed any exemption.

The first batches are due to leave the armed forces between now and early 2027. How quickly the Chhattisgarh ex-Agniveer quota turns into real vacancies will decide whether this decision becomes a smooth bridge or only a promise on paper.
