Suppose you grew up in Delhi and always wanted to join the city’s police. Four years as an Agniveer have given you discipline and fitness. Does the Delhi Police have a reserved seat for you? It does. The Delhi Police Agniveer reservation is 20% of Constable (Executive) posts. This guide explains how it works and where it differs from other states.
What is confirmed
A Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) notification, reported by the Press Trust of India on 29 March 2026, reserves 20% of Constable (Executive) posts in the Delhi Police for former Agniveers. The notice puts into rule form an earlier decision approved by the then Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
| Item | Detail |
| Reservation | 20% of Constable (Executive) posts |
| Physical Efficiency Test | Ex-Agniveers are exempt |
| Upper age limit | Normal limit is 25 years; ex-Agniveers get 3 more years |
| First batch | A further 5 years, which takes the limit to 30 years |
| Physical measurements and medical standards | Unchanged; you must still meet them |
Notice the difference from the central forces. In the CAPFs, both the PST and the PET are skipped. In the Delhi Police rule as reported, only the PET is skipped, and you still need to meet the set height, chest and medical standards.
Why Delhi is a special case
Delhi Police works under the central government through the MHA, not under the Delhi state government. That is why this rule came as an MHA notice. We found no confirmed Delhi government rule for other junior posts, so check each department’s own notice before you assume a quota applies.
What is still not clear
- The written exam details. The notice says the Commissioner of Police will issue the test procedures separately.
- The number of vacancies for ex-Agniveers in a given year.
- The date of the first recruitment round that uses this quota.
The first batch of Agniveers is only now finishing its term, so a round under this quota may take time to appear.
How Delhi compares with other states
| State | Share | Posts |
| Delhi | 20% | Police Constable (Executive) |
| Haryana | 20% | Police constable |
| Gujarat | 20% | Armed police, SRP, jail and forest posts |
| Chhattisgarh | 10% | Police constable, forest guard, jail warder |
Each state sets its own age relief and tests. See our Haryana Police Agniveer reservation guide for a state that also offers loans and employer support.
How to prepare and apply
- Watch the Delhi Police recruitment page for the Commissioner’s test procedures.
- Watch the Staff Selection Commission website. In recent years it has run the Delhi Police constable exam.
- Check your height, chest and medical fitness against the notice.
- Keep your discharge certificate, service record and character certificate ready.
- Read the age rule in the notice. The first batch and later batches have different limits.
How to make the most of the Delhi Police Agniveer reservation
The Delhi Police Agniveer reservation is strong on paper: 20% of seats and a skipped PET. But the written exam details were left to the Commissioner of Police. So the smart approach is to prepare for the written test as if you will have to take it, and treat any exemption as a bonus.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming you skip all physical checks. Only the PET is reported as exempt. You must still meet the measurement and medical standards.
- Using the age limit of another state. Delhi’s normal limit for constables is 25.
- Mixing up Delhi Police with the Delhi government. The police force is under the central MHA.
- Expecting a notice soon. The first batch is only now finishing its term.
Preparing for the written exam
Delhi Police constable exams have long tested general awareness, reasoning, numerical ability and computer basics. We have not confirmed the pattern under this quota, so use the earlier pattern only as a guide. Build a daily habit of reading current affairs, and practise reasoning and arithmetic with a timer.
- General awareness and current affairs
- Reasoning and analytical ability
- Numerical ability
- Computer fundamentals (confirm in the notice)
Checklist for the first notice
- Read the age limit and see how the first-batch relief is counted.
- Check height, chest and medical standards.
- Confirm which stages apply to ex-Agniveers.
- Prepare certificates and scans.
- Apply well before the last date.
The Delhi Police Agniveer reservation may take time to show up as a real notice. Use that time to prepare, not to guess.
A short example
Take Pooja, a Delhi resident from the first batch. She notes the normal upper age of 25, adds the relief for ex-Agniveers and the extra first-batch relief, and sees that she fits. She keeps a record of her height and fitness, and reads the Commissioner’s test notice when it comes out. For her, the Delhi Police Agniveer reservation means a real seat, but only if she reads the notice with care.
Key points on the Delhi Police Agniveer reservation
- 20% of Constable (Executive) posts are reserved, as reported in March 2026.
- The PET is skipped, but physical measurements and medical standards still apply.
- Ex-Agniveers get 3 years over the age limit of 25, and the first batch gets 5 more.
- The written exam details were left to the Commissioner of Police.
Do not pay anyone who offers a Delhi Police seat. Real recruitment runs only through official notices, and fees are paid on official portals.
In short, the Delhi Police Agniveer reservation is 20% of Constable (Executive) posts, with the PET skipped and extra age relief. Prepare for every stage, and watch for the notice that puts the Delhi Police Agniveer reservation into use.
Compare the central forces too. Our guide to age relaxation in CAPF recruitment shows how those rules differ.
