You finish four years as an Agniveer and you want to join the police in your home state of Madhya Pradesh. Is a quota waiting for you? Until a few days ago, the honest answer was “not clear”. On 29 September 2026 that changed. This guide explains the MP Police Agniveer reservation as it stands today, and what is still missing.
MP Police Agniveer reservation: what the cabinet decided
On 29 September 2026, the Madhya Pradesh cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, approved a 20 per cent horizontal reservation for Agniveers. It covers uniformed services of the state. A horizontal quota is applied across the usual category lists, such as SC, ST and OBC, instead of being a separate pool.
State officials, as reported by news agencies, listed these posts:
- Police Constable (General Duty) in the Home Department.
- Constable in the Special Armed Force.
- Jail Guard in the Jail Department.
- Forest Guard in the Forest Department.
- Excise Constable in the Commercial Tax Department.
Agniveers get their own line. Home Guards and ex-servicemen have separate shares in the same posts. Here is how the reported shares look:
| Post | Home Guards | Ex-servicemen | Agniveers |
| Police Constable (GD) | 10% | 5% | 20% |
| Special Armed Force | 10% | 5% | 20% |
| Jail Guard | 15% | 5% | 20% |
| Forest Guard | 15% | 5% | 20% |
| Excise Constable | 10% | 5% | 20% |
Read the table with care. The three groups are different. If you are an ex-Agniveer, fill the form under the Agniveer group, not the ex-servicemen group. Agniveers who leave after four years do not automatically become ex-servicemen.
How the story changed since 2024
On 26 July 2024, Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Chief Minister said in a video message that the state would give reservation to Agniveers in police hiring. No percentage was named at that time. For two years, some websites guessed 10 per cent. The state never confirmed that number, and it is now out of date.
Other states moved as well. Uttar Pradesh approved 20 per cent in June 2025. Odisha framed rules for 10 per cent in October 2024. Chhattisgarh’s cabinet cleared recruitment rules for a 10 per cent quota at the end of September 2026. So the MP Police Agniveer reservation now matches Uttar Pradesh. The MP Police Agniveer reservation is also double the 10 per cent in Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
What is still not confirmed about the MP Police Agniveer reservation
A cabinet decision is the first step, not the last. The MP Police Agniveer reservation still needs rules. The state still has to change its recruitment rules and publish them. In the reports I could verify, these points are not yet settled:
- Age relaxation for Agniveers in these police posts.
- Exemption from the physical test.
- The date from which the new quota applies.
- The first recruitment notice that carries the Agniveer share.
Be careful with any site that quotes, for the MP Police Agniveer reservation, a fixed age limit or pay for Agniveers in MP today. If a number does not come from an official notice, treat it as a guess. The central government says the first Agniveer batch had not yet finished its term as of 21 July 2026. So the first large hiring rounds for ex-Agniveers are still ahead.
What to do while you wait
- Keep your discharge papers safe and make scans of each one.
- Watch the Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board, which ran the last constable rounds, and the MP Police notices.
- Open each new notice and search for the word “Agniveer”.
- Check the post, the age limit, and the physical test rule for your group.
- Apply in more than one state if you meet the rules of each notice.
There is one date to watch right now. A news report says the board issued a notice for 7,500 police constable posts on 9 September 2026, with applications open from 22 September to 6 October 2026 (Careers360 report). That notice came out before the cabinet decision. It may not carry any Agniveer share. Read it on the board site before you decide anything. The first Agniveer batch has not yet finished its term, so most of you cannot apply yet anyway. Still, you should know how the system works before your turn comes.
Keep these papers ready in print and in scanned form: your discharge certificate, service record, character certificate, Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets, and proof of residence if the notice asks for it.
Do not wait for one state only. A missed round can cost you a year. Central forces already run a 50 per cent Ex-Agniveer share for Constable (GD) posts, as the Home Ministry told Parliament on 21 July 2026 (PIB release). Compare that with the MP Police Agniveer reservation before you decide where to aim first. Our state-wise comparison table can help, and the age relaxation rules explain how age limits work in central exams.

A2: Police Constable (GD), Special Armed Force constable, Jail Guard, Forest Guard and Excise Constable.
