Sikkim is a small state with a big love for the armed forces. When its government announced a quota for Agniveers, the Sikkim Police Agniveer reservation became one of the most generous in the country. But what exactly did Sikkim promise, and what has been put on paper? Here is a clear guide.

Sikkim Police Agniveer reservation: the 20% announcement

On 24 April 2025, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced a 20 per cent reservation for Agniveers in state police services. The announcement came at an event in Gangtok. At the same event he spoke of a 10-year age relaxation for former Army personnel who apply to certain posts, and a plan to give them preference when shop sites are allotted.

Compare this with other states. Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh also give 20 per cent in police. Odisha and Chhattisgarh give 10 per cent. So Sikkim sits at the top of the range. Its 10-year age relaxation is also unusually long. The central government gives 3 years, or 5 years for the first batch.

Forest guards too

In July 2026, the Sikkim government announced a 20 per cent reservation for Agniveers in Forest Guard posts as well, according to All India Radio. This shows the state is extending the idea beyond the police. Always check which posts a notice covers for the Sikkim Police Agniveer reservation, because a quota for police does not automatically cover every uniformed post.

What is not confirmed

An announcement is not a rule. In the reports I could verify, these points were not shown:

  • The number of the notification that fixes the quota.
  • Whether the 10-year age relaxation applies to Agniveers or only to other ex-Army personnel.
  • Whether outsiders can use the quota, or only Sikkim residents.
  • Pay figures for the posts.

The age relaxation line needs care. The reports describe it for “former Army personnel”. Agniveers are a new category. Do not assume the 10 years applies to you until a notice says so. Older versions of this article quoted a fixed pay for Sikkim Police constables. I could not verify it, so I removed it.

Many states favour their own residents in police hiring. This is common practice. So if you are not from Sikkim, read the domicile rule in the notice before you invest time. That one condition can decide whether the Sikkim Police Agniveer reservation is open to you at all.

How to use the Sikkim Police Agniveer reservation

  1. Keep your discharge papers safe, in print and as scans.
  2. Follow the Sikkim Police and Sikkim government recruitment notices.
  3. Search each notice for the word “Agniveer”.
  4. Read the domicile, age and physical rules for your group.
  5. Apply in other states and in central forces as well.

The central route is large. The Home Ministry told Parliament on 21 July 2026 that central armed police forces and Assam Rifles reserve 50 per cent of Constable (GD) and Rifleman posts for ex-Agniveers (PIB

release). That is more than any state share. So many candidates will aim at both.

Questions to ask before you rely on the quota

Before you build a plan, put four plain questions to the notice. First, which posts carry the quota? Second, does the quota apply to your category and to your home state? Third, what is the upper age limit for you after relaxation? Fourth, what are the physical standards, and are you exempt from any of them? A notice that answers all four is a notice you can trust.

If a notice does not answer one of them, write to the recruiting office and ask. Keep the reply. A short email can save a long journey. The Sikkim Police Agniveer reservation is only as strong as the paper that carries it, so ask for the paper.

Finally, stay in touch with other ex-Agniveers from your state. Information travels fast in such groups, and one person often spots a notice first. Share facts, not rumours, and always add the notice number when you share a claim.

A smart way to plan

Think of a young person from Namchi who finishes Agniveer service. The Sikkim Police Agniveer reservation looks wonderful on paper. But a small state hires in small numbers. A few dozen posts in a round is common for small states. So the quota is a high share of a small pool.

That is why a second plan matters. Central forces hire in the thousands. The Sikkim Police Agniveer reservation can be your home option, and a central force can be your wide option. Prepare once for the physical test and the written test, and use it for both.
